Welcome Back!!

Welcome back to the 2012-2013 school year!  I'm pleased to announce that I will be teaching art at Woodland ES, Barnwell ES, and now Hembree Springs ES.  I'm looking forward to an exciting, creative year! 

SummerTime

2011-2012 school year has come to a close.  Next year I will be teaching art at Woodland ES, Barnwell ES, and now Hembree Springs ES.  I look forward to a relaxing summer and an energized return in the fall!

1st grade Watercolor Collages

1st grade students read Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain, a Kenyan folk tale.  The students created a stormy sky effect by using liquid watercolors and salt.  Students cut out shapes to create African animals and other Kapiti Plain details.

5th grade Loom Weaving

5th grade students discussed the characteristics of weaving and made their own looms.  Students were encouraged to experiment with different stitches and combinations, and some students even created their own new stitch!

Kindergarten Clay Beads

Kindergarten students can name all the 3d forms, cylinder, sphere, cube, etc.  They made beads out of clay and created colorful functional necklaces.

2nd grade Weaving

2nd graders discussed  weaving and looked at traditional Navajo weavings.  Students created a paper plate loom and bent the warp sections up to create a bowl.  Students are completing the final touches by adding paint to the inside to complete their patterns.

1st grade African Necklaces

1st graders learned about the Maasai people from Kenya, Africa...known for their large beaded necklaces. 

Students compared the African Necklaces to jewelry we see and use in our culture.  Students created patterned paper plate necklaces
