Kindergarten Clay Beads

Kindergarten students can name all the 3d forms, cylinder, sphere, cube, etc.  They made beads out of clay and created colorful functional necklaces.

2nd grade Weaving

2nd graders discussed  weaving and looked at traditional Navajo weavings.  Students created a paper plate loom and bent the warp sections up to create a bowl.  Students are completing the final touches by adding paint to the inside to complete their patterns.

1st grade African Necklaces

1st graders learned about the Maasai people from Kenya, Africa...known for their large beaded necklaces. 

Students compared the African Necklaces to jewelry we see and use in our culture.  Students created patterned paper plate necklaces

3rd grade Landscapes

3rd grade students learned about the life and artwork of Atlanta artist, Ford Smith (http://fordsmithfineart.com/). He is a landscape painter known for his use of color. Students created landscapes with depth by forming a foreground, middle-ground, and background and altering the placement and size of landscape details.

4th grade Clay Fruit Display

5th grade Clay Masks

5th grade students studied the artwork of Atlanta artist, Kimmy Cantrell. He is known for his colorful, expressionistic clay masks. Students used additive and subtractive hand-building techniques to create asymmetrical, playful masks.

4th grade Clay Fruit

4th graders used classic clay hand-building techniques to create realistic fruit. Students learned about Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusuma, who is known for her whimsical installations using repetition of dots. Students chose to glaze their fruit realistically or in the style of Kusuma.
