Henri Matisse on Facebook!

Woodland's art teacher, Jenn Heyser, had a great idea for a bulletin board this week. Our plan is to highlight an artist with pictures and information each month. This month is Henri Matisse, one of the modern masters participating in the High Museum's "Picasso to Warhol" exhibit. Matisse was a French artist known for his bold use of color and use of positive and negative space. Check out this great website for kids, and learn more about Henri Matisse!!

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students began their first lesson by reading The Spider Weaver by Margaret Musgrove and Julia Cairns. Students also read The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle. Students used many lines and shapes to create a colorful spider web, complete with collage spider.

1st grade

1st graders have been learning about Joan Miro and his use of lines and shapes. Students discussed landscapes and horizon lines, and created a Miro inspired Line landscape collage.

4th grade

4th graders have been learning about Keith Haring. Students discussed proportion and practiced gesture drawings. Students chose a gesture and filled in the sentence, "I feel ___________ when I __________" and created a drawing that illustrated their sentence. Here students are filling in their drawings with analogous and contrasting colors.
